External granular layer (cerebral cortex)
Brain: External granular layer (cerebral cortex) |
Latin |
lamina granularis externa isocorticis |
The external granular layer is one of the layers of the cerebellar cortex consisting of granule cells, which are also known as granular neurons. The EGL is a cell population present during development, which migrates past the purkinje layer to form the internal granular layer (IGL). EGL cells migrate to the CB from the upper rhombic lip, before their final mitotic division.
